What can I expect from Veneers and Laminates treatment

veneers and laminates

Are chips, cracks, or discoloration making your smile less radiant than it could be? Veneers and laminates offer patients a unique way to correct these aesthetic issues without the need for extensive tooth alteration or dental work.

If you’re looking for a dental practice that provides laminate veneers services in the Asheville area, you may want to consider Chestnut Family Dentistry. Our practice offers patients a particularly easy, one-appointment procedure thanks to our sophisticated CEREC machine that allows us to make veneers on site. Contact Chestnut Family Dentistry today for more information about the procedure, or to schedule a consultation appointment

What are Veneers and Laminates?

Veneers and laminates are thin shells made of porcelain or resin composite that are bonded to the front of the teeth. These dental fixtures can be used to correct a broad range of aesthetic issues, including severe discoloration or minor chips and cracks.

Veneers and laminates provide a number of cosmetic benefits to the people that receive them. They can:

  • Mask severe discoloration
  • Repair chips or cracks
  • Create a uniformly colored and shaped smile
  • Fill in small spaces and gaps

These fixtures are an excellent alternative to dental crowns because they involve a much smaller degree of tooth alteration. This leaves your treated tooth stable and healthy enough to stand on its own in case your veneers are removed or damaged.

What can I Expect from Treatment?

Before the actual procedure begins, interested patients must meet with Dr. Willoughby or Dr. Bare to discuss their goals and expectations for treatment. If everything goes well, a mold of the target tooth is taken and color-matched to the rest of the mouth. This mold is then created with either resin composite or porcelain using our in-house dental lab’s CEREC® machine. With this machine, our dental technicians can create beautiful, natural-looking veneers in as little as 10 minutes.

Once this mold is finished, the patient’s tooth is lightly buffed to take into account the slight thickness of the veneer. After the tooth has been adequately prepared, the finished veneer is placed over the tooth so the patient can see how closely it matches the rest of their teeth in size, shape, and color. At this point in the procedure, the veneer can be adjusted to better match the patient’s smile.

As soon as the patient approves the finished product, bonding chemicals are applied to the tooth and the veneer is cemented snugly onto its surface. While there is an adjustment period during which the veneer can feel slightly strange or uncomfortable, patients usually get used to them 1-2 weeks after treatment.

Am I a Candidate for Veneers or Laminates?

Anyone interested in correcting minor tooth damage or discoloration may be a good candidate for a veneer and laminate procedure. Before undergoing treatment, curious patients will have to schedule a consultation appointment. During this appointment, Dr. Willoughby or Dr. Bare will assess the patient’s overall oral health and discuss how well a veneer procedure could help them meet their aesthetic goals.
