What are Dentures?
Dentures are removable appliances that can be used to replace missing teeth. Whether you’ve lost your teeth as a result of gum disease, injury, tooth decay or trauma, these dental fixtures can help you look and feel like your old self.
The difficulties imposed on individuals with missing teeth are something that not many people consider. These devices can be an excellent way to make it easier to speak and eat, and can even improve your overall appearance. Facial muscles begin to sag if a significant number of teeth are lost; dentures can help fill in this lost volume and revitalize your appearance in a natural, healthy way.
What is the Difference Between Full Dentures and Partial Dentures?
At Chestnut Family Dentistry, we provide patients with two types of dentures: full or partial. Full dentures are usually used by patients who have lost a full set of teeth. They are fixed permanently into the mouth, and cannot be removed without the help of a dental professional.
Partial dentures are held in place by a metal framework and can easily be removed. Like full dentures, these devices can replace a full set of teeth, but they can also be used temporarily while undergoing the process of receiving dental implants. This ensures that patients are not entirely missing any teeth throughout their treatment process.
Am I a Good Candidate?
Nearly anyone who has lost a significant number of teeth is a potential candidate for either full or partial dentures. However, people with either partial or complete gum recession may not have enough stable soft tissue to support these fixtures. Before receiving these dental appliances, patients need to undergo a consultation appointment with either Dr. Willoughby or Dr. Bare. During this consultation appointment, one of our dentists will access the current condition of your mouth and help you select a dental rejuvenation plan that works best for you.
Don’t settle for anything less than a healthy, beautiful smile — contact Chestnut Family Dentistry today to schedule a consultation appointment.
